... Word Work - Spelling (and handwriting and phonics) ...

This resource doesn't follow typical 'good spelling' schemes - it was not designed as a pure spelling resource. It has to meet multiple needs:
*Spelling
*EAL - pictures chosen therefore include multicultural items as well as basic items that an EAL child might need to know, and yes, this is sometimes at the expense of pure phonics.
*Acknowledge multicultural options
*Handwriting - the order chosen especially at the beginning is in the order we feel works best when developing handwriting (see the handwriting support sheet on the Literacy Home Page)

    Suggested activities:
    Put rhyming pair headings on board
    EITHER
    *Say sentences with words from each heading,
    children to display answers on own whiteboards
    OR
    *Brainstorm words to fit under each rhyming variation.
    Write on sugar paper.
